Dane Rudhyar - Sun and Moon

Sabian Symbols by Dane Rudhyar
In the current period, there are Moon–Sun conjunctions at 28° of a sign and Moon–Sun oppositions at 13–14° of a sign.
Naturally, many astrologers are speaking about the Moon–Sun conjunction at 28° or 29° of a sign, which is understandable given the sense of urgency, it's an he Anaretic Degree and so many transpersonal planets are positioned on this degree. Uranus, Chiron, Neptune, and Saturn brush against and “dance” with these final degrees of a sign, spanning the transition between the previous calendar year and the one we have entered.
Uranus is at 1° Gemini, Neptune and Saturn at 0° Aries, Pluto at 1° Aquarius, and Chiron is approaching its ingress into Taurus.

However, this has not particularly drawn my attention, as virtually every astrologer has already expressed their views on this topic. What truly caught my attention instead was the opposition.
What is the difference between an opposition and a conjunction?
An opposition brings an inner struggle for the individual.
“Should I be agreeable or combative?” (Moon–Mars opposition).
A conjunction, on the other hand, can create confusion: the two energies are difficult to differentiate, which often leads to projecting on of them onto others in order to understand them. The conjunction between Neptune and Mercury creates an inability to clearly distinguish Neptunian energy (everything is vague, fluid, indistinct) from Mercurial energy (the need to know, understand, analyse everything). The lived experience may then be coloured by the perception: “since everything is unclear, things must be being hidden from me.”
An opposition between two planets obliges the person to find a middle ground between the two energies, This leads to several questions:

 • What is the difference between an opposition and a conjunction, particularly with regard to the Sun and the Moon?
 • How is this opposition experienced when it affects personal planets?

The current Sun–Moon movement
Let us first observe the movement currently unfolding between these two planets.
From October 2025 onward, we enter a Sun–Moon opposition at 13°–14° of the signs, alongside a conjunction at 28°. We therefore focus on the Full Moon (13°). This pattern continues until April 2026.
For six months, there is a continuous opposition between the Sun and the Moon, always in aspect to the transpersonal planets, thereby illuminating with even greater intensity the sign changes of Uranus, Chiron, Pluto, Neptune, and Saturn (Chiron and Jupiter change signs in June 2026).
We are therefore dealing with a structural movement accompanying the sign changes of the transpersonal planets. This is what interests me, because understanding meaning through a structured movement is often, for me, the key to comprehension.
During this same period, the Sun–Moon oppositions are each time also in aspect to these same planets—
with the Sun moving from Libra to Aries, and the Moon from Aries to Libra.

Reading the Sabian Symbols
To read the Sabian symbols, one must first understand how they are used.
13°01′ refers to the 14th degree.
What does Dane Rudhyar say about the 14th degree in general?
The general theme of the 14th degree is maturation and consolidation.
Sun at 14° Libra “A man taking a siesta in the noonday sun.”
An indication that it is important to rest, refocus on oneself, and integrate what has been learned.
- 14° Scorpio “Telephone linemen at work installing new lines.”
The need to establish new lines of communication (possibly spiritual).
- 14° Sagittarius “The Great Pyramid and the Sphinx.”
Recognising the eternal power of esoteric knowledge from a previous cycle of existence resurfacing.
- 14° Capricorn “An ancient bas-relief carved in granite, bearing witness to a long-forgotten culture.”
Rudhyar sees in this image the possibility of unearthing what holds permanent value, linking past and present, and letting go of what is not essential.
- 14° Aquarius “A train entering a tunnel.”
The capacity to shorten the course of natural evolution through willpower and mastery of the body.
- 14° Pisces “A distinguished lady wrapped in fur.”
The use of intelligence and refinement as protection against the storms and trials of life.
Solar evolutionary path
If we consider the progression of solar energy, linked to cosmic awareness and becoming conscious of universal laws, the movement can be read as follows:
Self-respect (rest) allows for renewal and the establishment of new communication, which leads to awareness of ancestral knowledge. Recognizing and integrating this knowledge enables greater mastery of one’s will and body, allowing for a better quality of life and greater protection against life’s trials.

And what about the Moon?
14° Aries “A coiled serpent beside a couple.”
Judging too hastily that it is possible to transform the status quo all at once.
14° Taurus “Children playing on the beach near crabs scurrying along the shoreline.”
A return to simple pleasures as a source of renewal.
14° Gemini “Abolishing physical distance and social barriers, two men communicate telepathically.”
Transcending the contingencies of material existence.
14° Cancer "A very old man, facing northeast, contemplating a vast darkened space.”
Fulfilment in an immutable and transcendent wisdom.
14° Leo “A disembodied soul seeking to return to Earth.”
The aspiration toward self-realisation.
14° Virgo “The family tree of an aristocratic lineage.”
A deep trust in the ancestral roots of the individual temperament.
The Lunar path
The lunar journey, whose energy speaks of our capacity to emotionally connect with others, teaches us that: Premature rebellion encounters resistance that can be avoided. Taking time for oneself and with oneself, and recognising the pleasure of being with others, provides nourishment and allows one to move beyond the frustration of material limitations. This immutable and transcendent wisdom is an accomplishment in itself and leads to answering the aspiration toward self-realisation. Integrating ancestral roots reveals itself in each individual’s temperament.

In my own case, since these 13°–14° degrees directly affect my natal chart—with the Moon, Venus, Vesta, and Ceres at 13°, and the Ascendant at 15°—there was a persistent sense of insistence, as if something were repeatedly tapping me on the head, until I finally listened.
The geometry of the opposition at the beginning of January directly activates all these points at 13°, with the Sun conjunct Ceres in Capricorn. What, then, am I hearing?
The change we are experiencing today is distinguished by its orientation toward both logic and rationality, as well as intuition and perception. It seems we can no longer rely solely on the tools of intellect in the future. Even if reasoning retains its place, it will be placed in service of intuition and perception.
